This undated view is probably from the late 1880s, looking across the Clay statue toward the Touro Building on the downtown side of Canal Street.  At the right we see a pair of horsecars (pulled by mules, of course) passing each other on the outer tracks of the Canal & Claiborne RR Co.  Note the advertising plastered across the dash panels of the cars.  In the distance at the left we can see the dome of the first Maison Blanche building. — H.
