Canal Street in the late 1940s (above) and early 1950s (below).  The view is out toward the lake, with St. Charles/Royal the first intersection.  Notice the realigned inner tracks, with passenger loading space between inner and outer tracks; the ornamental street lights, and lack of overhead wires (except, of course, for the trolley wires and the span wires to support them); and in the foreground, the cut off remnants of curves that formerly connected Royal Street and the downbound track on St. Charles to the outer Canal Street tracks. — Grant L.
