Pictures 37 and 38.

Two views of horsecars on the Orleans RR lines circling the Clay statue, probably some time in the 1880s.  Both look out toward the lake.  The ad on the front dash of the horsecar in the upper photo reads, “FRENCH OPERA HOUSE / SATURDAY, at 7:30 P.M. / TRAVATORE / MR. CESTE! / The Leading Baritone as COMTE DE LUNA.”  In the lower view, the track in the foreground is the lakebound outer track, which crosses the ORR track loop.  Note the open ditch to the right, and the jog in the alignment of the outer track as it passes the statue. — Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division, Detroit Publishing Company Collection (upper), Woodward Stereoscopic Co.
