In January 1962, an extreme cold front descended on New Orleans, resulting in temperatures of 14°F and killing the recently planted palm trees along Canal Street.  This February photo shows the start of the process of removing and replacing the dead trees, as Canal car 907 inches past the work. — UPI photo
