This opening day view of cars 2008 and 2016 beginning an upbound run from Canal Street to UPT suggests one possible reason for building the Loyola Avenue (and Elk Place) tracks in the street rather than the neutral ground.  Given the extensive landscaping which would have had to be removed, clearly the aesthetic choice was to lay the tracks in the street, at least along Elk Place.  These two views of car 2008 (above) and 2016 (below) give us a good look at the arrangement of track and overhead lines. — Photos by Earl Hampton
